8. Fabio Cannavaro (Guangzhou Evergrande) – €14m.
The 2006 Ballon d’Or winner has spent the bulk of his coaching career in China, having been in charge of Guangzhou Evergrande (twice) and Tianjin Quanjian. He also had a brief stint in Saudi Arabia.
Since November 2017, however, Cannavaro has remained at Evergrande on a lucrative retainer. The latest figures claim he makes €14m-per-year, which is more than most of Europe’s best football managers make.
And after leading Evergrande to Chinese Super League glory in 2019, it’s safe to say Cannavaro is earning his keep.
