Vieira was literally the ultimate midfielder in his day, with his physical and mental approach helping get Arsenal out of difficult situations.

Aside from being a proficient playmaker, the Frenchman was also able to support the Arsenal defence with his hard-core tackling and intelligent approach. Therefore, it was a no-brainer when Arsene Wenger made him captain in 2002.

And Vieira, like any true leader, excelled in the role to lead the club to record-breaking success until his departure in 2005 for Juventus.
