Time to talk about Spain’s greatest line-up during the 21st century ahead of tonight’s big match in our latest Best XI series.
Spain were initially better known for being home to Barcelona and Real Madrid before the start of the 21st century. However, all that changed once the Golden Generation arrived in the mid-2000s.
La Roja had suddenly transformed from underachievers to world-beaters in the space of a few years, with the Euro 2008 marking the nation’s first major international triumph since 1964.
The Golden Generation went on to dominate football by lifting the World Cup in 2010. They then retained the European Championship two years later.
Many great players, of course, formed part of this historic run and made life difficult for us to pick an ultimate XI.
Eventually, though, we settled on a 4-5-1 formation and made some bold choices in the line-up, which you may or might not agree with.
So, without further ado, we give you the best Spain XI of the 21st century.
