Miguel Angel Russo has been appointed the new manager of Boca Juniors.

Miguel Angel Russo takes charge of Argentine giants Boca Juniors. This comes after the departure of Gustavo Alfaro.

There have been plenty of names linked with the job, from Diego Maradona to Mauricio Pochettino.

However, following some inner turmoil involving club elections, there has finally been an appointment.

The club opted to bring back a manager from the past. A man who spent one year at the club back in 2006/7. He was also the last manager that saw them lift the Copa Libertadores.

Boca sit 2nd in the Argentine league.

They are in a Copa Libertadores Group H. That consists of Libertad de Paraguay, Caracas FC de Venezuela, and one other team yet to qualify.

Russo has two primary goals if he is to stay beyond this season. Win the Argentine Super Liga and the South American Championship.

No pressure as he told the clubs official website, bocajuniors.com.ar :

“Hopefully we have to win the Libertadores and celebrate it at the Bombonera.”

He has only signed a one year contract.
