Borussia Dortmund have reportedly initiated talks with Lille OSC over a big-money move for the prodigious forward Jonathan Ikone.
Dortmund will face an uphill task of retaining Sancho, particularly in light of growing interest for the 20-year-old coming from almost every major league in Europe.
The 2019/20 Bundesliga runners-up have, therefore, been scouring the old continent for the Englishman’s long-term replacement, with several names ending up on their list.
After setting their sights on the likes of Werder Bremen’s Milot Rashica and Bayer Leverkusen’s Leon Bailey, the ‘BVB’ have now shortlisted Johnatan Ikone of Lille.
As per Daily Star, talks between the sides have already been established, with a sum of £41 million flowing around.
Dortmund have already showcased their skill at signing raw talents and turning them into prized assets numerous times in the past.
Ikone, 22, matches the profile, as he is young, talented, and has plenty of room to improve under the right guidance.
The versatile forward has been a permanent fixture in the Lille starting eleven over the past two seasons, often using his quick movements and much-required football audaciousness to unlock defenses at will.
His output of four goals and seven assists in 36 outings in 2019/20 might be deceiving, given the difference has was able to make on multiple occasions throughout the season.
If Dortmund do manage to get the deal over the line, Ikone would become the club’s second summer signing after Jude Bellingham, who arrived from Birmingham City earlier this week.
