According to Catalunya Radio, FC Barcelona have made significant progress in the transfer of Matthijs de Ligt and could sign him in the next few days.

AFC Ajax has apparently reached an agreement with FC Barcelona over defender Matthijs de Ligt this Monday.

A report from Catalunya Radio’s show ‘Club de la Mitjanit’, informed about the player reaching an agreement.

The information reveals that agent Mino Riola met with the Barcelona board in Montecarlo on April 12, this is what moved the negotiation forward.

According to Catalan journalist Oriol Domenech, Raiola’s recent ban doesn’t affect this negotiation because it was made before he got sanctioned.

The plan was to make the announcement during the week after the season came to an end in the Spanish La Liga.

Now that the competition is only one game away from the end, the information about this negotiation came to light through this radio show.

Catalunya Radio are the ones that broke the story about Frenkie de Jong coming to FC Barcelona, they have a great track record when it comes to new arrivals and this seems like a legit source of information.

Domenech reports that the deal would be a matter of days to get completed, Barcelona has apparently beaten all the other major clubs in Europe to sign one of the most promising talents in the world right now.

There were rumors in recent days that placed Matthijs de Ligt on Liverpool FC’s radar, the player himself revealed that he would like to play next to his compatriot Virgil van Dijk.

However, this negotiation between the Barcelona board and Riola had great results and De Ligt was convinced about which route to take next on his career.

By the time this information is confirmed by all the parties involved, FC Barcelona will have beaten some of the biggest clubs in the world for one of the most desired players on the market.

Matthijs de Ligt was being closely followed by the likes of Juventus, Manchester City, Manchester United, Arsenal FC, Real Madrid, Chelsea, and Paris Saint-Germain.

At least three of these clubs believed they had a chance to land the player’s transfer before the end of the summer due to the agent.

Mino Riola did everything he could to get De Ligt to sign the juiciest possible contract with the highest bidder.

However, the player was well-advised by his family and he apparently decided to play at FC Barcelona next season.

De Ligt arrives as the second of two players who come to the Catalan club from Ajax, following the tradition of some impressive names in the country’s history who decided to play there.

Matthijs de Ligt comes to replace Gerard Pique.

As an obvious bet for the future, Matthijs de Ligt comes to FC Barcelona as the ideal Gerard Pique replacement.

The Dutch defender has many of the traits that the Catalan defender has, he also possesses some of the most valued characteristics that legendary Carles Puyol had.

De Ligt has slightly better quality with the ball and he also has strength in the air during corner kicks.

But the greatest virtue that Matthijs de Ligt has as a defender is his youth, he isn’t even 20 years old yet and he was already the AFC Ajax captain last season.

This player kept proving to be a world-class defender and he is even being considered to win the Eredivisie’s Player of the Year Award.

De Ligt is currently in a contest to win this individual award against PSV’s Luuk de Jong.

The last fixture of the season in Holland is coming on Wednesday and whoever wins the tournament gets the better chance to win this award.

Matthijs de Ligt is set to close the season at De Graafschap and PSV play at home against Heracles.

We are in for a thrilling end of the season as we only have three points between both clubs.
