Another Juventus deal is off, United decide against signing Super Mario.
He originally was coming as a part of the Lukaku Dybala swap deal. Then on his own merits. Now it appears not at all.
According to The Mail, United have decided Mandzukic will simply cost too much.
Just moments after the Dybala deal to leave Juventus was scrapped, so was the Mario Mandzukic deal.
The apparent reason is that Manchester United was not willing to meet either Juventus’s valuation or the player’s wage demands.
Apparently United valued the 33-year-old player at around 15 million pounds. While a figure has not been confirmed, it is understood Juventus had a very different number in mind.
Even though the clubs were still some way apart, United continued to talk to the player. In the hope of a deal being reached and not running out of time.
However, when United discussed personal terms with the Croatian international, they decided that no deal was possible. The best thing to do was walk away.
His demands made the deal simply too expensive for a player of his age who was being brought in as a squad player.
The Lukaku deal should be confirmed soon. He is in Milan having a medical. Terms and a fee are all in place.
It remains to be seen if United will sign a replacement. Or if they will put their faith in academy players.
If they don’t, while United’s window has not been outstanding, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s commitment to his philosophy has. If you are coming to United for money, then don’t bother.
