In-demand RB Leipzig centre-back Dayot Upamecano has put pen to paper on a new contract to bring departure speculations to a halt.

Various landing spots have been mentioned for Upamecano, from the Bundesliga to the Premier League, with Arsenal reportedly in the driving seat for the highly-rated defender‘s signature.

However, as per Goal, the 21-year-old Frenchman has extended his deal at RB Leipzig to summer 2023, bringing wild speculations linking him with a move away from the Red Bull Arena to an end.

Not many young defenders in world football are superior to the Leipzig prodigy.

Upamecano’s positional awareness and defensive attributes, accompanied by a strong physical presence and admirable aerial abilities, make him one of the most sought-after young central defenders in Europe.

During a four-year spell in the Bundesliga, the former Liefering starlet has racked up 83 league appearances and installed himself as a regular first-team fixture at Leipzig.

Among a sizeable list of clubs interested in acquiring Upamecano’s services, Arsenal had singled out as front-runners in the race to his signature.

Mikel Arteta is desperate to revamp his defensive options following a leaky season and was keen to make the France U-21 international his marquee summer signing.

Arsenal were persistent in their efforts to understand the margins for negotiating Upamecano’s switch to the Emirates, but they’ll now have to shift their attention elsewhere.
