Luke Shaw is backing his young teammate Mason Greenwood to emulate the great Dutch striker Robin Van Persie at Manchester United.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has used the tried and trusted method of his mentor Sir Alex Ferguson. Greenwood as been given ample opportunity while not being under the pressure of the main man all the time.
The teenage striker has not disappointed.
It appears that United defender and teammate Luke Shaw has been impressed too, and sees a big future ahead for the youngster.
Shaw, speaking to Manchester United’s official website, is full of praise.
“He’s had a fantastic first season in the first team, he’s clearly a natural goalscorer.”
“His goals return and his stats are great, and he’s got some assists too. For someone so young, in their first season, he’s done brilliantly.”
“He’s still got so much to learn.”
“But if he carries on working hard and pushes himself every day then I don’t see why we can’t see him turn into another Robin van Persie.”
Performances like Greenwood’s, especially in European competition have many believing that he is a sure sign that United are on the right track to better days.
