Bristol City head coach Lee Johnson wants to talk to his idol, Jose Mourinho, and he spent £450 on a bottle of wine that he hopes to share with the Manchester United manager
The Robins take on Premier League heavyweights Manchester United in the EFL Cup on Wednesday, with Johnson splurging on some expensive plonk, GOAL reports.
As Johnson claimed, Mourinho is something of an idol to the 36-year-old coach, and he said he wants to have the Portuguese manager’s brain after their mid-week Cup encounter.
As Johnson was asked, whether he wants to meet and sit down with the Manchester United manager after the game, he replied: “I hope so. I spent £450 on a bottle of wine,” he told BBC Sport.
“I have had to raid my little girl’s piggy bank. It is being flown in especially from Portugal. It’d be nice to get on as well as I can with him, get chatting to him and trying to pick his brain,” the Bristol City coach admitted.
He has also admitted, that he has done everything to learn from the Special One: “Jose’s right up there – I’ve read all his books, I’ve watched any session that’s possible to watch, I’ve studied his interviews.”
“He was a player at the same sort of level that I played and hopefully one day I’ll be managing at the top level with Bristol City,” Johnson concluded.
Bristol City and their manager will have a chance to prove what they can do on the pitch, as they will face the Red Devils for the first time since 1980, when the two sides met in the Premier League, and lost 4-0 to United.
Whatever the outcome of the game, the Robins manager is still hoping for his chance to sit down with Mourinho, which the Portuguese may not even know about yet.
