Juventus goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon is on the verge of being recalled to the Italian national team for their two March friendlies , amid speculation that the Italian is reconsidering his retirement
The 40 year-old made his last appearance for Italy in their World Cup play-offs against Sweden where they infamously failed to qualify for the tournament in Russia this summer.
At the beginning of the season, Buffon announced that this would be his last season in professional football but recently he has begun to reconsider his decision.
Sky Italia reports, according to Football Italia, that Buffon is expected to be called up by Italy boss Luigi Di Biagio for the two friendlies against England and Argentina. The games were expected to be seen as a farewell for the long-time Italy goalkeeper, but it may now not be the case.
Buffon previously stated that he would retire when he feels he can no longer compete at the top level. But, in light of his recent strong performances for Juventus, the Italian appears to be unlikely now to retire.
