Buffon: “I’d have liked to play with Ronaldo”

Gianluigi Buffon admits he regrets missing out on the chance of playing alongside Cristiano Ronaldo, but adds that he’s at Paris Saint-Germain to help Neymar win the Ballon d’Or

The veteran goalkeeper ended his 17-year association with Juventus last summer in favour of a free transfer to PSG on July 6.

Just four days later, Ronaldo completed his €112m switch from Real Madrid to Juventus in an Italian-record deal.

While admitting the prospect of teaming up Ronaldo at Turin would have been tempting, however, Buffon revealed that playing with Neymar and Kylian Mbappe at PSG convinced him to prolong his career.

“I’ve always liked playing with the best players,” Buffon told Esporte Interativo on Twitter.

Matthijs de Ligt answers why he didn’t want to join Barcelona

The new Juventus signing, Matthijs de Ligt, spoke today why he decided to join the Italian Lega Serie A champions and not the Spanish La Liga kings.

“I think I’ve played with the best players, although it’s clear that you can’t play with everyone, otherwise you should change team every year.

“Of course I’d have liked to play with Cristiano Ronaldo, but I have to say that one of the reasons why I kept playing was that I received a call from Paris Saint-Germain, where Neymar and Mbappe play.

“They, along with Messi, are the best players in the world, as well as Griezmann. PSG are aiming high and Neymar and Mbappe, I must say, are two important reasons behind my decision [to sign for PSG].

“I’m here in Paris to help Neymar win the Ballon d’Or. He has everything to win at least two. He only needs to convince himself.”

Buffon has made 13 appearances for PSG in all competitions since arriving at the French capital last summer.
