The 2019/20 Bundesliga season fixture list has been released, with Bayern Munich to kick-off their title defence at home against Hertha Berlin.
Last season saw the Bundesliga title battle between Bayern and Borussia Dortmund go down to the wire, with Niko Kovac’s side narrowly edging out their rivals by two points to collect an eight successive crown.
Now, the Bavarians are on the hunt for an unprecedented ninth title in a row for next season. They’ve begun their preparations by already forking out €115m on signing French World Cup-winning defenders Lucas Hernandez from Atletico Madrid and VfB Stuggart’s Benjamin Pavard.
Further signings are expected to made at the Allianz Arena, with Manchester City’s Leroy Sane reportedly at the top of Bayern’s shopping list.
And the Bundesliga announced that Kovac’s new-look Bayern squad will be tested for the first time on August 16 against Hertha, who finished 11th last term. Schalke 04 and Mainz will await them in their two games.
Meanwhile, title rivals Dortmund will kick-start their own campaign at home to FC Augsburg. The newly-promoted duo Cologne and Union Berlin will come up for them afterwards.
On the other hand, the new season’s first Der Klassiker between Dortmund and Bayern will begin in Munich between November 8 and 10. The return fixture will be played around April 3-6.
Julian Nagelsmann, who has swapped Hoffenheim for RB Leipzig this summer, will make his league debut away to Union Berlin. While David Wagner’s first match in the Schalke dugout will be against Borussia Monchengladbach.
