Former Liverpool assistant boss Zeljko Buvac is one of the top contenders for the managerial role in Schalke, according to Sky sources in Germany.
Buvac fondly called the Brain worked with Klopp at Anfield until his sudden departure a few days before Liverpool’s Champions League semi-final second leg against Roma last May.
Following the axing of their boss, Schalke have pinpointed Buvac as one of the managers to take over interim boss Huub Stevens.
Other managers linked to the role are former Bayer Leverkusen manager Roger Schmidt and former Huddersfield manager, David Wagner.
The 57-year-old Serbian manager worked alongside Klopp throughout his managerial career starting at Mainz in 2001 but left his position last season due to personal reasons.
According to Sky Sports, Buvac was briefly linked with the Arsenal job following Arsene Wenger’s departure at the end of last season.
Schalke are currently below the top 10 positions in the Bundesliga despite making it to the round of 16 in the Champions League.
