‘Calmer’ Mauro Icardi set to remain at Inter Milan

Mauro Icardi’s wife and agent, Wanda Nara, has announced that he plans to remain at Inter Milan for next season.

The former Barcelona youth player’s future at Inter has been in heavy doubt over the past few months following the club’s decision to strip him of the captaincy in February.

This came in light of failed negotiations between Icardi and Inter over a contract extension, with his current deal set to expire in June 2021.

The 26-year-old then spent the following seven weeks sidelined over an apparent knee problem. However, Icardi has since returned to action for Inter in their past three games.

But doubts over his long-term future continue to persist, with ex-Inter manager Gigi Simoni among those expecting the Argentine striker to leave in the summer.

Although Nara has now updated fans on her husband’s future by stating that they plan to remain at Inter for next term.

“Mauro continues to score, he goes ahead because he is the strength of the family,” she told Verissimo.

“Now he is calmer, he embraces everyone because he has always had a beautiful relationship with everyone.

“We will be here [at Inter] again next year.”

Icardi has provided a goal and assist in his three outings for Inter since the end of last month’s international break.

Top 5 destinations for Mauro Icardi during the summer

Now that we know he won't continue playing for Inter, it's time to talk about Mauro Icardi's Top 5 destinations for the summer transfer...

Luciano Spalletti’s side will need Icardi at his best for Saturday’s key match against top-four rivals AS Roma in the Serie A.

The Nerazzurri are currently third in the standings and six points above fifth-placed side Roma ahead of the final six games of the season.

But it looks like they will have to make do without Marcelo Brozovic and Borja Valero for this weekend, with Matias Vecino expected to be brought into the line-up.

The Serie A match between Inter and Roma will take place at the San Siro, with kick-off set for 20:30 (CEST).
