Carlo Ancelotti expects Juventus will come good in the “next few days” and again be one of Napoli’s biggest rivals this season.
The battle for the Serie A crown is shaping up to be a three-horse race between Ancelotti’s Napoli, Juventus and Inter Milan.
Currently, the Nerazzurri have taken an early-season two-point lead over Juventus in the standings. While Napoli have moved to within a single point behind the latter in third following their 4-1 victory at Lecce.
Although there have been some doubts over Juventus at the moment given the team’s struggles under Maurizio Sarri. The new coach’s stylish brand of attacking football is completely different from what they were accustomed to under Massimiliano Allegri.
When asked who he feels is Napoli’s biggest rival for the Serie A, however, Ancelotti told Sky Sport Italia: “Knowing Maurizio Sarri and his teams, Juventus are still under construction and need time to reach their peak.
“Inter already have some certainties, while Juve will find their feet over the next few days.”
It seems, though, that Ancelotti may have an ace up his sleeve for the title battle in new signing Fernando Llorente.
The former Tottenham striker hit a brace at Leece this afternoon to take his tally up to three goals in just two games. Another noteworthy fact is Llorente’s promising partnership with Arkadiusz Milik in the Napoli attack.
“He certainly made a good impression,” admitted Ancelotti.
“I liked the way he played alongside Milik and their positioning. The first goal also came from a Milik shot, so we’ve got a lot of variety to choose from in attack.
“Today, Milik took the centre-right slot, Insigne centre-left and Llorente centre-forward. Milik can shoot from distance there and receive in more space.
“He played alongside Robert Lewandowski many times for Poland, so he’s used to it.”
Lorenzo Insigne and Fabian Ruiz also got on the scoresheet for Napoli.
