Carlo Cudicini has tipped his former teammate to be a huge success at Chelsea as Lampard inches closer to being named the club’s new boss.
Carlo Cudicini is confident that former teammate, Frank Lampard would prove to be a successful manager at Chelsea. Following the departure of Maurizio Sarri to Juventus, the former England international has been tipped with a return to his old stomping ground.
And Carlo Cudicini, who shared the dressing room with the Chelsea legend for many years, says that knowing Lampard, he is certain success will come.
Indeed, Lampard’s first managerial stint began only last year with Derby County. It was a great introduction to things for Lampard as he almost guided the Rams to Premier League promotion.
While speaking to the Evening Standard, Carlo Cudicini said that Lampard has everything needed to become a successful coach.
‘It’s hard to give an opinion until the club have announced a new manager,’ Cudicini told The Evening Standard.
‘But I know Frank, I played with Frank. I think that, for the club, it would be fantastic. He has just started his career, but in football you can’t really plan much. Sometimes, a chance comes along and if you have the chance, you have to take it.
‘Obviously, for the club, he was such an important player and potentially as a coach he can be too.
‘I think he has all the ability to become a great coach, but he has just started. He had an important season at Derby, so we’ll see what happens.’
Apart from Lampard, no other name has been so heavily linked with the vacant managerial position at Stamford Bridge.
And with the club being unable to buy any players in this and the next transfer window, big names are unlikely to take on such a huge responsibility. However, the club has some really promising young players who might surprise many next season.
With Carlo Cudicini now working at Chelsea as a coach, Lampard would be getting a lot of help from a familiar face.
