Belgium winger Yannick Carrasco has revealed what he and his teammates must do to put the brakes on Cristiano Ronaldo.
Yannick Carrasco has warned his Belgium teammates to keep Cristiano Ronaldo ‘as far as away as possible from our box’.
Belgium will face the five-time Ballon d’Or winner and Portugal in a Euro 2020 last-16 tie on Sunday night in Seville.
The Red Devils are excellent in the attack, having averaged 2.95 goals per match in Roberto Martinez’s 59 games as head coach, and have conceded just one goal in Euro 2020 so far.
But in Ronaldo, who has scored five goals in the competition already, the Belgian defense is about to face its greatest challenge yet.
“We know that we can’t give Cristiano a chance or even a half-chance because he can score from everywhere,” said Atletico Madrid winger Carrasco in a press conference.
“His strength is to score – to score and to score again.
“Therefore, we have to keep him as far as away as possible from our box. So, we have to keep him well in check, but we know that around him there are other players that can assist him at any moment.
“So it is up to us not to leave them any space because we know they are dangerous when they find spaces.”
