Carlos Carvalhal has warned Ole Gunnar Solskjaer not to try and make Bruno Fernandes a number 10.
Bruno Fernandes has arrived at Manchester United. The burden of delivering the missing link to this underperforming team is huge.
This is very true from a player who scored almost 30 goals last season and was in double digits with assists.
However, all this has been achived from a midfield role.
The concern of former Sporting Lisbon manager Carlos Carvalhal is that Fernandes is mistaken for a number 10 or second striker.
Speaking to Sky Sports his former coach insists this is not Fernandes’ best position. He is adamant he can only do what he does as a number 8 in a true midfield role.
“He (Fernandes) is not a number 10.”
“Bruno is a midfielder but he has developed that ability to break the line of the defense to score goals.”
“He shoots, he assists, the passes and the free-kicks.”
“But he is not a 10, he is an 8.”
“He is a box-to-box player who understands very well the game. He doesn’t just play, he understands everything that happens around him.”
