Casemiro has opened up on his relationship with Zinedine Zidane and how it has helped him become a better football player.
If there’s one player in the Real Madrid team whose contributions most often go unnoticed or who doesn’t get the deserved plaudits, its Casemiro.
Casemiro signed for Real Madrid in 2013, but it was not until three years later that he became an indispensable player in the team.
A rock in the path of the opposition, the defensive midfielder was fundamental to his side’s recent Champions League heroics as well as last season’s La Liga triumph.
It was Zinedine Zidane who recognized the Brazilian’s talents and made him a starter.
In an interview with the Guardian, Casemiro, who grew up watching Zidane, says he is still at times awestruck by his superstar manager.
“Even today I get a little nervous talking to him. I tell him he doesn’t know what he meant for us, for me,” said Casemiro.
“He’s incredible: the humility, how he expresses football. He treats us with so much affection and love.”
“He’s very insistent; he always, always says: ‘Case, you can do more: arrive from the second line, feed midfielders, bring the ball out cleanly.’ He says: ‘I’m not asking you to do something you can’t do; I’m asking you to do something you can.’ He trusts me a lot.”
