Iker Casillas confesses it took time for him to find peace after parting ways with Real Madrid and now he is ready to make his return.

After 25 years at the club, and playing over 700 senior matches, Iker Casillas put an end to his Real Madrid career in 2015.

Casillas had enjoyed immense success by the time he quit, having guided the team to several LaLiga and Champions League titles, among a plethora of other silverware.

But the way he departed did not at all feel like the departure of a legend. It was rumored that the club were ungrateful for his services and forced him towards the exit door.

“The departure from Real Madrid was traumatic, but it’s my home,” said Casillas in an interview with Colombian publication Semana.

“We broke up, like when a marriage separates and you say everything and there were things that were badly said and out of context. But time passes and everything calms down.”

Casillas earlier made the decision to hang up his gloves. He is now expected to return to Santiago Bernabeu as an adviser to president Florentino Perez.

“Nothing is closed yet, but I hope that my new stage will be at Real Madrid,” the Spaniard added. “Florentino [Perez] recently called me to make an offer. And now when I return to Madrid, we will talk.”
