Ex-Inter Milan player Antonio Cassano expects Lautaro Martinez to replace Mauro Icardi, suggesting he would be of no value to the team if he fails to score.
Martinez deputized the former Inter captain while in exile, however, Icardi has returned to the first-team fold replacing the injured 21-year-old forward.
Nonetheless, Cassano believes the Argentine’s return will prove to be shortlived despite resolving issues with the club.

“Inter play with a 4-2-3-1, which means having only one striker: Icardi cannot play with Lautaro,” the former Italy attacker told Tiki Taka and cited via Football Italia.
“If it was up to Spalletti, he would play Martinez because he prefers strikers who play for the team.
“Lautaro’s done very well, he’s 20 and he has to play because he’s better than Mauro.
“Icardi just scores and that’s it. If he doesn’t score, he offers nothing else.
Cassano hinted Icardi doesn’t play for the team apart from poaching in goals which doesn’t bode well with Spalletti’s tactics.
“Spalletti prefers strikers like Dzeko, Benzema and Lewandowski Icardi is like Inzaghi in that if he doesn’t score, he does nothing else.
“I think Spalletti prefers a player like Lautaro. He wouldn’t even play someone like Piatek.
“There are players who score goals and others who score goals and also play for the team.”
Inter settled for a barren draw against Atalanta in the race for a top four position in the Serie A.
