Edinson Cavani will only go to Atletico Madrid if the club president Enrique Cerezo takes back what he said about the player’s family.

Edinson Cavani was expected to make a winter transfer window move to Atletico Madrid from PSG. The move never materialized and the player stayed in Paris.

There has since been talk that the move fell apart because of financial demands.

Atletico president Cerezo publically slammed the player’s relatives, just about accusing them of extortion.

Cavani’s agent is also his brother, so the accusations have not gone down well.

Now Cavani’s mother has got involved, and Berta Gomez is not happy at what has been said about her boys.

However, she is also a businesswoman and insists that a deal between her son Edinson and Los Rojiblancos is still possible under one condition.

In an interview with AS, Mrs. Gomez wants an apology. Quite simply she is adamant a retraction of the allegations and they can still have their man.

She said:

“It is not impossible that Edinson could go to Atletico Madrid in the summer.”

“As long as the president rectifies what he said.”

“The president of Atletico must apologize.”

“We are not spiteful and everything can be fixed if he retracts what he said.”

“My son is going to have offers, it is unquestionable because he is a proven forward, as he has shown in all these years.

“But he keeps thinking about being able to go to Atl├ętico because he would like to play under Cholo [Diego Simeone].”

It remains to be seen whether such a dialogue will take place. The club has made their claim. While the player’s agent has made comments to the contrary blaming Atletico for the break down of the deal.
