Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain wants Liverpool players to learn from Cristiano Ronaldo’s and Lionel Messi’s desire to achieve greatness.
Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo are undoubtedly one of the greatest players ever. Some even rank the pair as number one and number two in the greatest-ever list, but the order is up to debate.
Messi and Ronaldo have dominated the last decade of football. The pair, along with countless other honors, share eleven Ballon d’Or between them.
Recently, speaking on the club’s website, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has spoken highly of Ronaldo and Messi. Chamberlain praised them for their dedication to stay at the top level. He also urged Liverpool players to try and emulate their mentality.
“The way you can explain something like that is if you look at Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo, the bar they have set for years and years and years. They might go one season or calendar year scoring 70 goals. If they hit 45 the next year, they are probably not satisfied and the people around are probably not satisfied anymore.
“When you consistently hit them year after year, or as close to, is when you will be satisfied with yourself and others will be satisfied.
“That’s why the likes of those two players I just mentioned go down as the greatest. Because they have been able to keep that up for year on year on year, for 10 or 15 years. That’s nothing to think lightly of, it’s unbelievably hard.”
