Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has opened up on how he hopes to inspire the next generation of talent in the same way he was by Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard.

Trying to match Steven Gerrard’s achievements on the pitch for Liverpool could be an almost impossible task. Oxlade-Chamberlain is well aware but is aiming to build on the influential legacy the club legend left behind.

The Reds forward came off the bench to wrap the scoring for Liverpool in their 5-3 victory against Chelsea on Wednesday.

Despite the absence of fans in the stadium for their trophy triumph, Oxlade-Chamberlain still felt the euphoria of the moment.

Asides winning trophies, the 26-year-old is already looking at inspiring the next crop of Liverpool talent the same way he looked up to Steven Gerrard. For any Englishman at all, the likes of Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard would forever remain reference names in terms of their influence during their playing days.

“You can’t take moments and nights like this for granted,” Oxlade-Chamberlain told the official Liverpool website

“You can’t take playing for an amazing football club like this with fans that care so much, you can’t take that for granted.”

“So, as a player you need to seize those sorts of moments. We are here for a short time. We have our little spells hopefully making history at this football club, we’ve got to do our bit to inspire the next generation like Steven Gerrard inspired me.”

Many doubt if Liverpool can maintain their dominance and Oxlade-Chamberlain insists himself and his teammates are aiming to prove their doubters wrong.

“At the minute we are going that way to doing that, but we need to go on now and have a strong streak for a few years and once said and done, that will be our story told and this football club will go on and hopefully people can follow us too,” he added.

Expect Oxlade-Chamberlain and company to go on another relentless title chase next term.
