Charlie Nicholas expects Aubameyang to stay put as he doesn’t believe Barcelona can afford him, or that Manchester United are a bigger club than Arsenal.
Aubameyang is central to Arsenal’s summer plans and it’s no surprise there is anxiety at the club to see what he decides with his future.
The Gabonese international proved how pivotal he can be as he fired the Gunners to FA Cup glory and spared the blushes of what was a ‘poor season’ for the North London side.
Aubameyang is in the final year of his contract and it is expected the Gunners could let him go this summer rather than lose him for nothing next year.
Barcelona, United, Juventus and Real Madrid have all been linked with Aubameyang, and it has been suggested that he could be tempted by a high-profile switch.
However, club legend Charlie Nicholas doesn’t see any of this happening. The 58-year-old believes a move to United will not appeal to the Arsenal captain and that clubs abroad might not be able to ‘afford’ the forward. What would the Finns say if would have to bet on it on their nettikasinot 2020?
“I do genuinely believe if I said to Aubameyang right now that there’s two in England that are bigger than Arsenal: there’s Liverpool and Manchester City.” Nicholas said in an interview with Off The Ball.
“Does he really want to go and join Manchester United? Are they getting closer? My answer is ‘no’. I think Manchester City and Liverpool are still way out there.”
“I don’t think Juventus are miles ahead, Barcelona are struggling for cash and I don’t think Real Madrid are so rich as what they were and what they want.”
“So I’m finding that for one of the best strikers and certainly one of the best finishers in world football, I am very optimistic about him being in the red and white of Arsenal.”
