Frank Lampard has given an update on N’Golo Kante’s fitness, but it might not be what Chelsea fans were hoping to hear.
According to Football.London, Frank Lampard was unable to tell reporters if French midfielder Kante would be ready for the Premier League kick-off this coming weekend.
When discussing the French man’s first appearance in pre-season with reporters, the Chelsea boss had this to say; “It was a good opportunity to do that for him (get minutes) and we’ll work hard on getting him fit.”
“Who knows if he’ll be ready for next week or not, but we’ll work hard for that.”
The Chelsea boss was careful not to give too much information away and went on to say; “We also have to be a bit careful as he’s played so many games over the past three seasons and we don’t want to rush him back if it’s going to be a negative.”
Comments like these suggest that Kante will perhaps be rested for the opening game against Manchester rivals, Man United. A decision that Chelsea fans may not like, but will surely understand.
The box-to-box midfielder has struggled with the injury since the end of last season and almost missed out on the Europa League final against Arsenal due to it. With that in mind, club officials will be sure not to rush him back, just as new manager Lampard has expressed.
