Chelsea stomped over Grimsby Town with a Basthuayi brace and goals from Barkley, Pedro, Zouma, James, and Hudson-Odoi.

Frank Lampard’s Chelsea had a relatively easy Carabao Cup match on Wednesday against Grimsby Town, they played at Stamford Bridge with many substitutes.

The Blues knew that facing a League Two squad would need many of the youngsters to play this evening.

There was a good chance they could win with a convincing result and Frank Lampard knew exactly who to play at Stamford Bridge.

The game started with a wonderful solo goal from Ross Barkley, who went past two defenders and scored with a low shot directed at the goalkeeper’s post.

This initial goal gave Chelsea further control of the game, it also gave Michy Batshuayi his chance to score the first of two goals only three minutes later.

Matt Green’s goal before the 20th minute appeared to give Grimsby Town a chance to respond, but it was only an illusion.

Kurt Zouma was taken down inside the box with a few minutes left on the first half, and Pedro scored Chelsea’s third from the spot before half time.

Three goals in the first half were more than enough to make all Chelsea fans think that the next round ticket was in the bag, and they weren’t wrong.

With 45 minutes still left on the clock, it was time for the youngsters to make their appearance.

Youngster Reece James was the pleasant surprise of the evening, he delivered an assist to Kurt Zouma for Chelsea’s fourth goal only 11 minutes into the second half.

Lampard decided to ask the squad for less gas on the pedal, he didn’t want to risk any injuries.

We also had some unfortunate chances from Christian Pulisic, who is struggling to justify Chelsea’s expenses on his transfer.

The American forward is still far from the level everybody expects from him, he took a few shots that were missed by inches during the second half.

The game was dominated by the Blues, but they weren’t able to score more goals until the final minutes.

James was the one who found the fifth of the evening, a clinical shot from out of the box was impossible for Grimsby’s goalie to save.

Pulisic at least got some satisfaction in the end after providing an assist to Batshuayi, which gave the Blues a sixth goal. But the best was saved for last.

Callum Hudson-Odoi returned to Stamford Bridge with a goal after a long recovery from an injury.

The young star received a pass from Batshuayi and scored a typical winger goal from the left flank of the pitch.

This return is perfect for the youngster’s confidence, Frank Lampard was thrilled for this final result at the Bridge.

All the Blues had to do was wait for the next round draw to take place, and the result was something they didn’t expect this early in the competition.

Manchester United for the next round.

Turns out that the next round in the tournament will give us two amazing matches, we have Liverpool playing against Arsenal at Anfield.

And we also have the Blues playing at home again, only this time they face Manchester United.

Frank Lampard’s squad will be looking for revenge after that painful 4-0 defeat they got at Old Trafford at the start of the Premier League season.

Given how much the Red Devils struggled to get past Rochdale tonight, we believe that this game will be complicated for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s boys.

This smashing 7-1 victory fills the youngsters with confidence for the upcoming matches ahead, they have another three games before the next international break.

Next weekend, Chelsea will play at home against Brighton & Hove Albion before the UEFA Champions League returns.

Frank Lampard needs to get the team ready for their first trip of the season, where they will face Lille at Stade Pierre-Mauroy.

The Blues have another away match in the Premier League after that, they will visit Southampton’s St. Mary’s Stadium.

It doesn’t look like an overly complicated week ahead for Chelsea, but anything can happen.
