Chelsea hold Frank Lampard talks

The Blues are discussing terms with Frank Lampard as they look to swiftly seek a replacement for the departing Maurizio Sarri this summer.

With Chelsea’s managerial position set to become vacant, Frank Lampard is the name that has been touted. The Chelsea legend is currently the manager of Championship outfit Derby County whom he guided to the playoff final a few weeks ago.

Chelsea have already begun talks over bringing the club’s favourite son back to the Stamford Bridge according to the Daily Mail.

And following a great introduction to his managerial career, Frank Lampard is seen by the Chelsea hierarchy as a long term solution. Maurizio Sarri ended his first season in English football on a high. Under his tutelage, the Londoners went on to finish third in the league standings and also lifted the Europa League crown.

However, despite his achievements, the Italian tactician hasn’t won over fans. Moreover, with Massimiliano Allegri having resigned from Juventus, the Old Lady is looking to bring Sarri back to Italian football.

And Chelsea are not going to stand in Sarri’s way. This may also be because the Blues do not want to waste their time in signing Frank Lampard.

Lampard currently is the only viable option out there. The likes of Ajax manager, Erik ten Haag and ex Juve manager Massimiliano Allegri are not sure about the Chelsea project. With the club currently serving a transfer ban, the duo is not sure if they’d be able to get the best out of the current squad.

Given that Chelsea have already sold Eden Hazard, a lot of attention could be paid on promoting academy and reserve team players. Lampard, being someone who understands the club’s identity, would be a perfect fit for such a setup.

Regardless of who ends up occupying the managerial hot-seat, it is going to be a challenging job.
