Chelsea Player Ratings against Leicester City

Chelsea made a promising start to their second league game of the season but were unable to keep the same levels in the second half.

Chelsea and Frank Lampard should count themselves very lucky to have not walked away from the game against Leicester City with nothing to show for their efforts. While the Blues did make a very strong start to the first half and did not give the Foxes any room to breathe whatsoever, they were equally bad in the second half.

Chelsea players were definitely hustled and harried by Brendan Rodgers’ men who could have had at least two goals in the second period had their finishing been more clinical. After Wilfried Ndidi’s error resulted in Mason Mount scoring the club’s first game of the season, the midfielder redeemed himself as Leicester ended the game strongly.

Here we look at the Chelsea player ratings for a game they might have lost.

Kepa Arrizabalaga (6)

The Chelsea number 1 had a small heart in your mouth moment when he tried to close down James Maddison. The young midfielder beat him to the punch but thankfully there were enough players around him to counter the situation.

The Spaniard did however manage to make crucial saves.

Cesar Azpilicueta (5)

The right back is a veteran now but hasn’t made the best of starts to the new season. After struggling with the pace of Manchester United’s attack last week, the Chelsea captain again struggled to mark Ndidi for Leicester’s equalizer.

Andreas Christensen (6)

The Denmark international had a lot of problem dealing with the likes of Maddison and Vardy late on in the game and was lucky that he wasn’t found out.

Kurt Zouma (6)

While this was a much better performance than the one we saw at Old Trafford, the Frenchman still struggled against Leicester’s talented attacking lineup. Now back at Chelsea, Zouma really needs to show he deserves a place in the starting XI.

Emerson (7)

The Brazilian was solid at the back and made sure that Ayoze Perez was kept at bay. One player who would be an important presence for the Blues this season.

Jorginho (6)

Formed an excellent partnership with Kante in the first half. In the second half however, the Italian struggled to deal with the excellent Youri Tielemans. Hooked off in the second half for Matteo Kovacic.

N’Golo Kante (6)

The France international was great in the first half but like most of his teammates, struggled after the break.

Christian Pulisic (6)

The young American made a promising home debut and worked hard throughout the 90 minutes. Chelsea players really need to bring him into the game more often.

Mason Mount (8)

The youngster was a livewire throughout the game and scored his first for the club. He might have had a second but his header was too close to Kasper Schmeichel.

Pedro (5)

Started well but disappeared as the game wore on.

Olivier Giroud (6)

The Chelsea striker was very much involved early on but never looked like scoring.
