The Blues have been linked with Atletico Madrid midfielder Saúl Ñíguez.
According to Spanish outlet Don Balon, Chelsea are ready to fork out £71m to secure the services of the 22-year-old from Los Rojiblancos in the forthcoming winter transfer window in January. The report claims that Antonio Conte is a keen admirer of the attacking midfielder from Madrid and would like to bring him in to bolster his offensive options at Stamford Bridge.
Yet, a potential move for Ñíguez might prove to be difficult since the youngster recently put pen to paper on a new four-year deal with Atleti that includes a staggering release clause of £134m to fend off potential suitors. Another obstacle for Chelsea will likely by Diego Simeone’s unwillingness to part ways with the rising Spanish star, claims Don Balon.
The reigning Premier League champions are currently sitting nine points behind table leaders Manchester City and will have a lot of work to do to defend their English top-flight crown.
