Juventus captain Giorgio Chiellini believes Cristiano Ronaldo will take them to another level on a global basis in a similar way to Andrea Pirlo’s domestically
Pirlo arrived in Turin in 2011 as a free agent on the back of winning his second Serie A title with AC Milan.
The Italian playmaker’s impact at Juventus was instant as he led the club to their first league crown in nine years along with further success in the Supercoppa Italiana and Coppa Italia Final.
After a trophy-laden spell, Pirlo left Juventus in 2015 and they have continued his legacy by extending their winning title run in the Serie A to seven straight seasons.
Now Chiellini believes Ronaldo will emulate Pirlo’s impact by leading them to world domination.
“I think Cristiano Ronaldo has noticed what an important team he has behind him, particularly at Valencia,” said Chiellini, as quoted by Football-Italia.
“He’s helping us raise the bar, but we showed to always be a team at Mestalla and in any case, a match like that increases your self-esteem.
“He works in a way that we lacked before. He gives conviction to his environment.
“For example, Pirlo gave it to us in Italy and now Ronaldo is giving it to us on an international level.
“He’s a player who improves the whole team around him. He’s also filled the personality void left by Buffon’s farewell. It was like he’d never left.
“He’s crucial on and off the field. We elevate each other, highlighting our strengths. Our qualities come to the fore with people like him.”
Ronaldo managed 11 goals and seven assists in 18 appearances in all competitions for Juventus since his summer arrival from Real Madrid.
The Old Lady will be back in action on Friday in their derby clash with rivals Inter Milan on Friday in the Serie A.
