Chile has a walk in the park against Japan at the Morumbi

With goals from Pulgar, Sanchez, and a double from Vargas, Chile breezed past Japan in their Copa America opener at Morumbi Stadium.

After two consecutive trophy wins in Copa America between 2015 and 2016, Chile came back to the competition with an initial match against Japan.

Morumbi Stadium opened its doors for this first game of Group C that also includes Ecuador and Uruguay.

The current champions played against a young Japanese squad that got invited to the competition for the first time in history.

Chile was essentially facing a young squad filled with under 23 players but they didn’t give up that easily, they at least tried to compete against the champions.

The first half was as everybody expected, with Chile dominating most of the opportunities and they got their reward soon enough.

During a corner kick four minutes before half time, the Chilean squad found their first goal through a header from Erick Pulgar.

The Bologna midfielder reached an important height as he jumped and connected the ball with a high level of skill.

This initial goal gave Chile the chance to dominate the second half, the current champions of America were about to find more fortune during the second half against the Japanese squad.

We had an especially good performance from striker Eduardo Vargas, who scored a double during the final 45 minutes in order to secure the first victory for his side.

Eduardo Vargas is already one of the most prolific strikers in his country’s history, he has a very special connection with the national team and this tournament seems to be no different.

Edu got a ball with a lot of space near the outskirts of the box, he decided to release a shot from a distance.

When he took his chance, the ball coincidentally got deviated by a Japanese defender and got in the back of the net.

This second goal came eight minutes into the second half, Japan was completely surrendered and they were expecting more goals.

One of the few Japanese players who tried to score at least one goal for his side was Kubo, the latest Real Madrid transfer.

The youngster played the full match for his side and had a very clear chance during the second half, but his shot went slightly wide as he got inside the box.

Japan improved during the final 20 minutes of the match as Chile seemed to get a little more relaxed, the Asian side missed a couple more chances due to their players’ inaccuracy.

Alexis Sanchez made his appearance with nine minutes left on the clock, he headed a ball in the back of the net after Aranguiz sent him a precise cross from the right flank.

This was Chile’s third goal of the evening, they were having quite the easy first match of this Copa America.

It took the Chileans only one minute to get that fourth goal, Eduardo Vargas found an opening after Alexis Sanchez sent him a long ball from midfield.

Goalkeeper Osako came out of the box to try and stop the striker, but Eduardo was smarter and simply dinked the ball over the goalie’s head.

That was a 4-0 victory over Japan that places Chile as one of the squads that got three points on their opener of this new Copa America.

This tournament in Brazil might shape up to be quite competitive as all these tournaments usually are.

On a negative note, we could see Arturo Vidal going out of the pitch with a clear muscular problem in his right thigh.

The Chilean midfielder told the media that it wasn’t serious, but we still have to check on results from the test he is getting on Tuesday.

The Copa America will continue later today with a match between Bolivia and Peru, then we have Brazil playing their second match inside Group A against the Venezuela National Team.

Chile kicked off the tournament with a deserving victory, they completely dominated the game through and through.
