With goals from Fuenzalida and Alexis Sanchez, the Chilean National Team eliminated a weak Ecuador from this Copa America.

The Copa America continued on Friday with the second match of Group C between Chile and Ecuador, the current champions came from a 4-0 victory against Japan during the first match.

The Ecuadorian squad is a team in construction that lost their first match against the Uruguay National Team. The match took place in Arena Fonte Nova in Salvador, Bahia.

The first half was thrilling between both squads, we had Chile getting ahead in the scoreboard at an early time.

Jose Pedro Fuenzalida scored the first goal of the evening after a corner kick was taken inside Ecuador’s area.

The veteran midfielder connected a volley that got in through the bottom corner, this was the first goal of the tournament for the veteran player.

But Ecuador was going to respond quickly to that initial goal, they did it through a penalty kick that was awarded in their favor.

Striker Enner Valencia was taken down inside the box by goalkeeper Arias, the Tigres player himself scored the equalizer from the spot and we had a momentary draw on our hands.

VAR played an important role in the game as it has done throughout the whole tournament, the referer used it in the first half to book Arias for committing a foul outside of his area.

After the break, it took Chile only five minutes to get their second goal. Alexis Sanchez was on point with a volley he connected after a precise cross was sent from the right flank.

The Manchester United player is having a great Copa America performance so far, he will be very important for his side during the final group stage match against Uruguay.

This goal gave Chile the edge during the remaining 40 minutes of the second half, they dominated all the chances without giving Ecuador any quarter.

This goal also helped Alexis Sanchez reach 43 goals with the national team, he is the all-time leading scorer for Chile at the moment.

The rest of the second half saw an Ecuador side getting increasingly frustrated with their inability to score a goal, several players got booked.

In midfield, Arturo Vidal played a fantastic match with his already familiar aggressive style.

There were many players who got tired of Vidal and they went after him with several fouls, the Barcelona midfielder got one of their players sent off near the end of the game.

This result completely eliminates Ecuador from the competition after two consecutive defeats, they don’t even have a chance to be one of the best third places in the competition.

What’s next for Chile?

The current champions have taken Group C’s top position, they got 6 points and are above Uruguay.

The next match will be decisive for La Roja, as they take on the Charruas in a thrilling match that will take place on Monday at the mythical Maracana Stadium.

This is a winner takes all situation between both squads, the victor will be the Group’s top team.

This Chilean National Team keeps proving that they are one of the most impressive South American squads in recent memory.

They are still going strong with their football despite having several veteran players on the team, they have the potential to get far in this competition.

Winning a third consecutive Copa America would be huge for Chile, it would definitely prove they are the most dominant side from South America over the last decade.

They could’ve won against Ecuador by many more goals today, but Eduardo Vargas wasn’t as accurate as he usually is in front of goal.

Alexis was the man of the match, as his goal was the one that gave Chile the valuable three points.
