American teenage Chris Richards is being hailed as the next great defensive stalwart coming out of Bayern Munich’s youth academy.
Germany has become the mushrooming ground for American teenagers looking to make the mark on world football. Chris Richards is the latest youngster following the footsteps of Cristian Pulisic, Josh Sargent, and Tyler Adams.
If one is to believe Die Bayern’s youth coaches at Saebener Strasse, Richards needs chances to prove his worth.
Dave van den Bergh, former USA U19s coach was also bullish in his appraisal of the youngster and believes he can play ten-years with the Bundesliga giants.
“We’ve only seen the very, very beginning of him,” Bundesliga quoted van den Bergh. “I think he can be a 10-year Bundesliga player. He can become the next Jerome Boateng if he is given the opportunity.”
Bayern Munich royalty, Sebastian Hoeness, also had great words to share about Richards. He reflected that the Alabama native’s versatility to thank for in their German third-tier triumph.
“It was only over three or four weeks,” the 38-year-old recalled. “I think things beside football became a little bit too important and you could see it on the pitch. I reminded him what chances he would have if he developed over the next years. Now he is one of the most professional players in my team.”
