Christian Pulisic was happy with how Chelsea debut turned out despite it ending in a 1-0 friendly defeat to Kawasaki Frontale.
After agreeing to a €64m transfer from Borussia Dortmund in January, Pulisic finally made his first appearance in a Chelsea jersey on Friday in Japan.
The 20-year-old forward had to wait for seven months before he could play for Chelsea due to spending the rest of last season on loan at Dortmund.
Despite representing the United States in this summer’s CONCACAF Gold Cup, however, an eager Pulisic cut short his vacation to report to his new club immediately.
And the young American finally made his long-awaited Blues debut against J-League side Kawasaki Frontale as a 65th-minute substitute. Although he wasn’t able to spare them from defeat after Leandro Damiao’s late strike secured Kawasaki Frontale victory.
Nonetheless, Pulisic was satisfied with how things turned out and to finally make his Chelsea debut.
“I’m really happy to be here with the team, and to get an actual match for the first time feels really good,” he told Chelsea TV.

“We wanted to come out with a win, but I’m definitely happy.
“They were very good opponents. As you saw, they tested us for 90 minutes and scored a good goal in the end. It was a tough one, but that’s why we’re training and getting ready for the season.
“We want to try and progress in every game and get more and more match fit, and I think that helped us out today.
“It’s been tough getting into things, but I’m feeling really good. It’s great to work with the coach and all these guys – it has tested me and I’m having a great time so far.”
On Blues icon Frank Lampard as his manager, Pulisic added: “I grew up watching him.
“So to have him here giving me pointers and helping the team – it’s awesome to have him around. It’s nice to have a guy that we can really relate to.”
Pulisic and Chelsea will be back in action on Tuesday against Barcelona in Japan.
