Let’s talk about Chelsea’s only addition this summer – the 20-year old USA international Christian Pulisic.

Christian Pulisic will be the only Chelsea addition this summer, alongside Mateo Kovacic who was already at the club as a loaned player last season.

The 20-year-old completed his move to Stamford Bridge back in January but spent the remainder of the 2018-19 campaign on loan at Borussia Dortmund.

He missed the start of Chelsea’s pre-season tour, because of international duties at the Gold Cup, where he noted three goals and three assists, guiding the Unite States to the final. The winger was a bit quiet in the decider, as Mexico beat USA 1-0 to win the North and Central American championship.

Pulisic joined the Blues and made his debut in a 1-0 friendly defeat to Kawasaki Frontale earlier this week.

Now that he is here, many of the football fans around the world are looking at him as a direct replacement for Eden Hazard, who left for Real Madrid at the start of the transfer period.

However, Pulisic believes he is not there to make comparisons with the Belgian, who was probably the best player Chelsea has had in the past decade.

“I’m not here to compare or anything. Obviously, Eden was amazing and he did so well for this club, as you could see last season and the whole time he’s been here. He was an incredible player,” he said via Sky Sports.

“For me, it’s coming in as my own player, proving myself and doing the best I can to help this team.

“Right now it’s going in and helping the team whatever way I can. It’s just bringing intensity into the training first of all and earning respect in the beginning. Then I want to make an impact as much as I can on the pitch.”

Let’s now go back a few years and see where has the USA international started his career in football.

Born in Hershey, Pennsylvania to father Mark Pulisic – of Croatian descent and mother Kelley, Christian spent the majority of his childhood in the United States.

Probably because of his European roots, Pulisic fell in love with ‘soccer’ instead of American football or basketball. He played for different teams in the States as a youth player, before joining Borussia Dortmund in 2015, at the age of 16.

The youngster instantly made an impact at Dortmund’s U17 and U19 sides, noting 10 goals and eight assists in 15 appearances for the youth team. He was promoted to the first team during the winter break of the 2015-16 campaign and made his debut in January 2016.

Pulisic quickly established himself as a first-team player and has made more than 150 senior appearances for club and country since then… and he is only 20 years old.

He was named the U.S. Soccer Young Male Athlete of the Year for 2016 and the U.S. Soccer Male Athlete of the Year for 2017, while his excellent games at the 2019 Gold Cup got him the CONCACAF Gold Cup Best Young Player Award.

The American, who won the DFB-Pokal with Dortmund two years ago is now ahead of a new heading in his career and ready to make an impact in the Premier League for Chelsea FC.
