Colombia gets into the Copa America quarterfinals vs Qatar

With a lonely goal from Duvan Zapata near the end of the match, Colombia defeated an ultra-defensive Qatar to get into the Copa America quarterfinals.

The Colombia National Team is taking this Copa America edition very seriously, they got their second consecutive win against the Qatar squad on Wednesday.

Led by a stellar James Rodriguez, Carlos Queiroz’s squad proved that they are one of the most competitive squads in this great competition.

The Colombia National Team place themselves as one of the top title contenders after beating Argentina last Saturday, and also defeating Qatar.

The current Asian champions are the most impressive squad from that area of the world, they became one of the most uncomfortable teams in this Copa America as one of the tournament’s guests.

The South American squad started the match strong, they had several chances that nearly got them ahead in the scoreboard.

Radamel Falcao sent a header just wide before the 10th minute of the match, Juan Guillermo Cuadrado also sent a potent shot straight to the Qatar goalkeeper.

All the balls were going through James Rodriguez, who was quite inspired to perform this evening.

Manager Carlos Queiroz confirmed what most of us believed, Duvan Zapata is in better form than Radamel Falcao for this competition.

The Atalanta striker received a confidence boost with a starring role in this match, as the manager left Radamel on the bench in order to give him his shot.

Zapata played during the whole 90 minutes of the game, he held the attacking responsibility until the very last minutes of the match.

James was just as sharp as he usually is for Colombia, he should play for a team that always wears yellow in order to function properly.

The first half didn’t have many great emotions, Colombia kept the control of the game but half time came soon enough.

The second half was saving the most emotional moments of this match, we were getting a VAR controversial call and a thrilling end of the match.

The Qatar National Team got a penalty called against them that had to get reviewed by VAR, the ref didn’t call it in the end.

The rest of the match was dominated by Colombia, Qatar never really had a chance to respond to the South Americans’ attacks.

The Asian squad was extremely defensive throughout the whole game, this match would be decided by a single goal if anything was going to happen.

Only a moment of genius from one or two players could change the course of this overly defensive game, Colombia needed a magic moment from James Rodriguez.

This moment came during the final five minutes of the match against Qatar, James saw striker Duvan Zapata moving inside the box.

The still Real Madrid player sent a beautiful assist with the outside of his left foot, Zapata jumped in the air and connected the ball with his head to send it far from the Qatar goalie.

This solitary goal was more than enough for Colombia to get that next-round ticket to the Copa America quarterfinals.

The match ended with this final result that gives Carlos Queiroz’s squad the first spot in their group, which they share with Argentina and Paraguay as well.

The pressure was on Argentina’s side after this new result, they really needed a victory against Paraguay later in the day in order to remain in the fight for the competition.

This Colombian side does look powerful in this new Copa America edition.

After his performance against the Qatar squad, James Rodriguez was recognized as the MVP of the game, he always responds with his national team.

When things get really difficult for Colombia, all the other players know that they need to give the ball to their number ’10’ in order to fix the problem.

It was a hard-earned victory for Colombia, but well-deserved in the end.
