Sevilla manager, Julen Lopetegui, wants his players to be ready for the new season by making them compete for a spot in the starting eleven.
Julen Lopetegui and the Sevilla footballers are working hard to make sure they can start the 2019-2020 Spanish La Liga campaign the right way.
And to be able to do that, the manager is making his players compete for a spot in the starting eleven.
“Competition is key for any team to improve,” Lopetegui told Spanish media outlet Marca.
“This is what we’re trying to encourage, competition, that [the players] train with the goal of helping the team.”
The manager explained: “[We’re trying to get] the players to put across this ambition, this willingness to work and this passion.”
Sevilla defeated Liverpool 2-1 in Boston, United States, in yesterday’s friendly match.
“It was a good test, a very demanding one against the reigning European champions,” Lopetegui admitted.
“They were missing some key players, but it’s normal that these matches are so demanding because the big teams and champions are obliged to play them.”
“We were really excited to take another step forward in our preparations, which is the most important thing,” he concluded.
The team will now play a couple of friendly matches against Hoffenheim.
