Robert Lewandowski will remain at Bayern Munich for this season, confirmed manager Niko Kovac
The Polish superstar has been strongly linked with a move to Real Madrid and Manchester United over the past year with his agent, Mino Raiola, announcing earlier this summer that Lewandowski wishes to leave the Allianz Arena in pursuit of a new challenge.
But Bayern have been determined to hold on to their main goalscorer, even though Kovac had conceded that the 29-year-old had expressed an interest in leaving.
But the new Bavaria boss has now announced that, after face-to-face talks with Lewandowski last week, that he will remain at Munich for the upcoming season.
Kovac told SportBild: “It’s true that Robert and I had a conversation last week.
“Robert knows how I think about him and what I think of him. The whole club knows the qualities he owns.
“He is certainly among the top three strikers in this position worldwide. We certainly will not give it up.
“That’s the statement I gave him. Robert accepted that. I really enjoyed that.”
Lewandowski has scored 151 goals in 195 games for Bayern.
