Coronavirus has put the brakes on another international tournament, as the African Cup of Nations is moved to 2022.
Only last month the Confederation of African Football announced they were pushing ahead with plans to still play the African Cup of Nations in 2021.
Well, it appears that the worst-case is here.
Following Euro 2020, the Copa America and the Olympics the African Cup of Nations 2021 is the latest tournament to be hit by the coronavirus.
The African continent’s governing body for football announced today the one-year hiatus.
A statement released read:
“After consultation with stakeholders and taking into consideration the current global situation, the tournament has been rescheduled for January 2022.”
The confederation also confirmed that the African Champions League and confederations cup would resume in September.
However, the women’s version of the nation’s cup was canceled entirely.
