Diego Costa’s Atletico Madrid career could be in jeopardy after refusal to train with the first-team squad.

The former Chelsea striker was handed an eight-game ban for his comments towards the referee in Barca’s 2-0 defeat which effectively rules him out for the rest of the season.

AS reports Costa faces internal action from Atletico for the sending off after official Gil Manzano confirmed Costa twice said to him “I s*** on you w**** mother”

It’s believed the ban may have equally led to the skipping of the training session despite the club confirming he is not injured.

Costa’s long-term future at Atletico is also in doubt following his barren run that has paved way for Morata to secure the starting spot.

The Spaniard is contracted until 2023 but he has only managed five goals this season and reports suggest his latest indiscretion could be the final straw for boss Diego Simeone.

Simeone’s patience has reportedly run out with Costa and he will listen to offers for him at the end of the season, with a move to China having been mooted.

Report: Man United make a shock move for Antoine Griezmann

Manchester United have reportedly made an approach to sign Antoine Griezmann from Atletico Madrid in the summer transfer window.

The latest twist is reminiscent of his Chelsea days when ended up incurring the wrath of Antonio Conte, with the Chelsea boss axing him from the team.

Costa returned to Madrid in 2017 after three seasons with Chelsea.
