Rumor has it Manchester United are plotting a move for another aging yet proven Arsenal striker.
Multiple sources are claiming that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s center forward target for the summer transfer window is Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang of Arsenal.
Aubameyang is 30 years old and has a little over a year to go on his contract with the Gunners. The talk out of the Emirates Stadium is that the Gabon international is stalling on signing a contract extension as he is unsure about his long term future is at the club.
The former Borussia Dortmund player has been at Arsenal for two years, lead their scoring charts and been one of the leagues leading scores too.
It should be noted in his time at Arsenal he has failed to lift a single trophy.
Let’s roll the clock back to 2012.
Dutch striker Robin Van Persie was entering the last year of his contract at Arsenal. The forward had been one of the Gunners leading marksmen for the best part of eight years.
However, he too was doubting the club’s potential and putting off signing a new contract. He had managed to get his hands on a solitary FA Cup winners medal during his time in North London.
Eventually Sir Alex Ferguson and Manchester United convinced the player that his future would be brighter at Old Trafford and Arsenal that a tidy sum of cash was better than losing their star for free to them the following year.
Back to the future!
Will Ole Gunnar Solskjaer be able to pull off a Sir Alex type deal, that sees Gunner leave for the Theatre of Dreams?
Arsenal will undoubtedly have to cash in on Aubameyang this summer if a new contract cannot be agreed upon.
United could do worse than add a player of his caliber to their ranks as they push to regain their spot at the top of England and Europe.
Van Persie cost United 30 million Euros. The question now is what will Aubameyang set them back?
Quotes vary from 30 to 50 million.
