Liverpool legend Ian Rush thinks Graeme Souness could have been as good if not better than the likes of Pep Guardiola, Jose Mourinho, and Jurgen Klopp.
Graeme Souness had an illustrious career as a player.
The Scottish international lifted 15 trophies, including three European Cups and five English League titles.
Spells in Scotland and Italy saw him win silver wear there too.
While at an already dominant Glasgow Rangers side he won three league titles and four cups.
Spells at Liverpool saw a FA Cup victory, with Blackburn Rovers a League Cup title, plus two cups while at Turkish giants Galatasaray.
Spells at Southampton, Torino, Benfica, and Newcastle were short-lived and fruitless.
Despite the numbers not really stacking up, Liverpool legend Ian Rush insists that Souness could have been the best.
Speaking to Talk Sport Rushy believes if he was to take up the challenge in today’s game he would rise to the top alongside the likes of Guardiola, Mourinho, and Klopp.
“He won the league easily at Rangers and came down thinking maybe he can do the same at Liverpool but he changed things too quickly, simple as that.”
“He lost the young players and the old ones by changing things too quickly – what he did have was the right ideas.”
“If Graeme Souness was manager of the team now, he’d be up there with the likes of Jurgen Klopp, Pep Guardiola, and Jose Mourinho.”
“I think he knows he’d made mistakes. He’d be an absolutely incredible manager if he was managing now.”
What do you think?
It takes some doing to make the list of top managers.
