Belgium goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois had a word of warning for Cristiano Ronaldo when quizzed on his record against the Portugal captain.
Thibaut Courtois has warned Cristiano Ronaldo to not get carried away with his impressive record against him as a lot has changed.
Ronaldo has faced Courtois on nine occasions in his career – eight times at Real Madrid and once for Portugal – and he has scored 10 goals in those matches, only failing to score in two of them.
The bulk of those goals came during Courtois’ three-year loan spell at Atletico Madrid between 2011 and 2014.
But while fully aware of just how lethal Ronaldo can be, the Belgian believes he is a better goalkeeper nowadays ahead of their latest showdown in Euro 2020 on Sunday.
"Cristiano Ronaldo is one of the greatest players in football history and he can always surprise. If we get to a penalty shoot-out, I want to know what other players tend to do." pic.twitter.com/e3ZG1S0JZD

“We have a plan to stop Portugal, they aren’t just one player [Ronaldo],” said Real Madrid keeper Courtois as quoted by Marca.
“Cristiano is the top scorer in the Euros, he’s an excellent player, obviously.
“However, I think he is still the same player he was when I was at Atletico, I have evolved more.”
Ronaldo leads the Euro 2020 scoring charts, having bagged five goals in his first three games so far.
The five-time Ballon d’Or winner can break Ali Daei’s international goal record in men’s football against Belgium by scoring at least one goal in Seville.
