Philippe Coutinho should follow the example of the Uruguayan following a failed move to Barcelona insists Emile Heskey.
The 25-year-old missed out on his ‘dream move’ to the Catalans even though he handed in a transfer request to the Reds. The Liverpool ownership remained adamant throughout the whole close-season that Coutinho will not leave the club and they kept their word.
The ‘Magician’ even signed a five-year-contract in January with no release clause, stating that he was happy at Liverpool and he had no reason to leave. However, during the transfer window the Catalans’ never-ending interest seemed to have changed Philippe’s mind, who told his manager he did not want to play for the Merseyside club anymore as his eyes were set on a move to Barcelona.
Speaking to Sky Sports about the situation, former England international Heskey said:
“He’s here, he’s at Liverpool, so he’ll have to stay.
“I’m guessing he’s one of those players that just wants to play the game, just wants to play football, showcase his skills, showcase his ability.
“What better way to do that than come back into the side and do well.
“Yeah (he’ll perform), why not? We had it with Suarez as well.
“There’s another player who’s gone on to do great things but the time he had at Liverpool was wonderful.
“He got his head down and really put in performances.”
