Rivaldo insists if Philippe Coutinho is to rediscover his best form, then a return to the Premier League is a must.
Philippe Coutinho was considered a star buy and a huge loss to Liverpool when Barcelona snapped him up for 145 million Euros back in 2018.
However, the so-called “big move” has been nothing short of a nightmare and a disaster all rolled into one.
The Brazilian playmaker struggled for form and playing time in Catalonia, and a loan move to Bayern Munich has proved just as fruitless.
It now appears he must seek another escape route out of the Camp Nou.
While a romantic return to Liverpool is not totally out of the question, the chance of him dislodging any of Jurgen Klopp’s first-team starters is slim. Coutinho would be in the same position he is now, sat on the bench.
So that brings into play the likes of Arsenal, Tottenham, and Leicester. It would make Coutinho the proverbial “big fish in a small pond” at any of those clubs.
His compatriot and former Barcelona legend Rivaldo would love to see him stay at Barcelona and revive his career. But admits the Premier League is a must for Coutinho.
Speaking to Betfair Rivaldo said:
“Philippe Coutinho will soon return from his loan at Bayern to Barcelona but I doubt he can revive his career there.”
“His best option could be returning to English football where he spent the best seasons of his career and in which his qualities seem to be best suited, as he proved at Liverpool when he was one of the best players in the Premier League.”
“At Arsenal, Tottenham or Leicester, Coutinho could be a regular starter next season. It would be a good opportunity for the Brazilian to rediscover his best form and show that he continues to be an excellent player who belongs to the elite.”
