Philippe Coutinho would have been the perfect signing for Manchester United until Fernandes came around, says Rio Ferdinand.
Rio Ferdinand believes Coutinho would have been the right choice in attack for United but would no longer be needed because of Fernandes’ arrival.
The Brazilian left Liverpool for Barca in January 2018 but failed to hit the ground running and is currently on loan at Bayern Munich.
Since his move, Coutinho has been linked with a move to a number of clubs including Manchester United, Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal.
His future still remains unclear but club legend Ferdinand believes United no longer need the the 27-year-old at the club.
Ferdinand told followers on a live Instagram Q&A: “At Liverpool he was an amazing player, but since he left Liverpool he hasn’t really done it yet.
“He struggled at Barcelona, struggled to fit in there and then he hasn’t done amazingly well at Bayern.
“I think he is a great player, a huge talent, I think he needs saving. Coming into the Premier League to the right team would be a saviour for him, he needs that.
“I would have said Man Utd before Bruno Fernandes turned up, but not now.
“Would he be a good addition, yes? Not Man Utd though, and he played for Liverpool so it is a difficult one. The rivalry is mad.”
Despite scoring eight goals and bagging six assists in the Bundesliga this season, Bayern CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge claims he is yet to be convinced by Coutinho.
