Cristhian Stuani on a Barca move: “I can’t say anything”

Girona striker Cristhian Stuani refuses to break his silence as rumours of a possible transfer to local rivals Barcelona grows stronger

Due to Paco Alcacer and Munir El Haddadi’s departures, Barcelona are alarmingly short of centre-forward options with Luis Suarez bearing most of the workload.

But the Uruguayan striker will turn 32 this month and, therefore, will need to be managed more carefully at this stage of his career.

And Barcelona, who have given Suarez 1,989 minutes of football in his 23 appearances this season, are wary of this and have begun a desperate search for a new centre-forward.

The Blaugrana have reportedly made Stuani their top transfer target due to his €15m release clause and the fact that he will be eligible for the Champions League this season as Girona didn’t qualify for the competition.

Aside from that, Stuani has proven to be a prolific scorer in his own right with 12 goals in 17 games making him La Liga’s third highest scorer behind only Suarez and Lionel Messi.

Speaking to reporters as he made his way to the car at the end of training on Tuesday, however, Stuani refused to give anything away over a possible switch to Barcelona.

“I can’t say anything,” he told the reporters, via Marca.

Girona will take on Atletico Madrid in the second leg of their Copa del Rey last-16 tie tonight with kick-off set for 19:30 (CET). The two sides are currently 1-1 on aggregate.
