The 35-year-old, five Ballon d’Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo is the bookies clear favourite to win Serie A’s Golden boot, or Capocannoniere, this season.

Last season Ronaldo was beaten to top spot by Ciro Immobile who scored 36 goals, five more than the Portuguese striker. Lukaku came in third with 23 goals. Immobile has consistently scored over 30 goals since joining Lazio four seasons ago, so he will be expected to compete with Ronaldo again this season. It should be noted that Immobile played four more Serie A games than Ronaldo last season.

However, despite the Italian striker’s consistency the bookies have backed Lukaku to add to his tally this season and take the second spot. The Belgian striker impressed in his first season at Inter Milan, gaining the trust of Conte and linking up well with Candreva and Sánchez.

Duvan Zapata, the Colombian striker, is also in the running according to the bookies after netting 18 goals in 28 games for Atalanta last season.

Ronaldo has failed to score less than 30 goals in a domestic league for Man Utd, Real Madrid and Juventus in just five of the last thirteen seasons. It is his proven track record over so many seasons, coupled with an outstanding recent performance against Sweden in the Nations League that has placed him as the favourite for top scorer in Serie A 2020/21.
